Faculty Opportunities in Virology
Albuquerque, NM

The nation's largest non-profit research institute dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of respiratory diseases is currently seeking Faculty (rank open) to be part of a dynamic and strategically growing collaborative research team. Based in Albuquerque, NM, this research institute is committed to the advancement and improvement of public health through a variety of basic, applied, clinical, and translational biomedical research. And, with an extended community of Faculty, researchers, graduate students, and technicians, we are uniquely positioned to provide broad research resources to Faculty members committed to advancing this mission.

Candidates with a demonstrated research expertise and record of accomplishment in any area of Virology relevant to Lung Cancer, Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Immunology, Gene Therapy, or Respiratory Tract Infection and Disease will be provided state of the art research space along with opportunities for funding and administrative support. Ongoing robust institutional support is available to Faculty members to expand research laboratories and programs, and to support establishing well-funded, rigorous and competitive research programs.

An affiliation agreement with the University of New Mexico allows for adjunct faculty appointments, training of graduate students, and fosters collaboration across the Health Sciences Research Programs and the University of New Mexico's NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. And, with over 120 animal models for respiratory research and breeding facilities for genetically engineered mouse models, Faculty will have an exceptionally rich environment for collaboration and translation of basic research findings to in vivo models. A well-established, pre-clinical investigational drug safety program will also enable opportunities to extend work into human clinical trials for respiratory and non-respiratory diseases.

The Faculty positions require a Ph.D. or M.D., demonstrated experience managing an independent research laboratory at a similar research or academic organization, and an outstanding record of publications and research accomplishments relevant to the candidate's focus area(s) of research.

Candidates are required to have a demonstrated history of success obtaining multiple funding awards at the RO1 (or equivalent) level. Faculty members are expected to develop collaborative working relationships with other research institute investigators and Faculty colleagues.

Applicants for a position will be requested to present a CV, a cover letter, a short summary of past accomplishments, an outline of future research plans, and letters of support from 3-4 academic referees.

Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the starting date is negotiable for Faculty opportunities. Competitive salaries, generous retirement contributions, and a comprehensive benefits package, and relocation will be provided to Faculty candidates, and associated research laboratory members, moving to the Albuquerque area.
